TENZIN PHUNTSOK ATISHA

Mr. Tenzin Phuntsok Atisha was born in a small village called Tsakor in Western Tibet and escaped with his family at age of six. He finished his studies from Central School for Tibetan, Dalhousie and later did his graduation and Master in Philosophy (M.Phil) in Political Science from Punjab University, Chandigarh. In 1997, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the United States.

In 1982, he joined Central Tibetan Administration and has held a variety of positions. He was a member of the Fifth Tibetan Fact Finding Delegation led by Woeser Gyaltsen Kundeling which visited north-eastern Tibet in 1985. For many years, he took responsibility of the Environment Desk in the Department of Information and International Relations. During that time, Atisha spent three months as a Consultant to the World Wildlife Fund (USA) on Tibet’s Environment. He was a member of the Tibetan Delegation to United Nation’s Earth Summit in Brazil, the Social Summit in Denmark and the City Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.

In 1999, Atisha was posted as the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Taiwan. he was later transferred to Australia as the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Australia in february 2003.

In 2010, Atisha joined Department of Information and International Relations as the secretary for International Relations. Soon after he joined DIIR, he visited China from January 26 to 31, 2010, for the ninth round of discussions with representatives of the Chinese leadership.
